ABOUT ME

Some kids draw on restaurant placemats; I would write stories. 

 

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, I recently worked as a writer and editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer, working in the Opinion and Health sections. I’ve written and edited thousands (yep, thousands) of articles for consumer health news (Reuters), and penned news stories and features for science magazines (Scientific American and Discover), as well as publications read by scientists and clinicians (Nature, Science, and trade magazines for physicians). I spent years as the editor of Retraction Watch, conducting investigative journalism that focused on academia, academic publishing, and scientific misconduct.

I write OpEds that range from reported opinions to personal essays on caregiving, grief, and loss following the death of my parents.
